Earned Value Management (EVM) is a program management tool that integrates the technical, cost, and schedule parameters of a contract and its projects or tasks. It provides significant benefits to both the government and contractors in the ability to examine detailed schedule information, critical program and technical milestones, and cost data. Most of the basic principles of an EVM approach are already inherent in good business practices and program management; however, there are some unique EVM guidelines which require a more intensive approach to the integration of management systems.

Earned Value Management (EVM) is fully embraced by the NASA and DoD Acquisition Communities as an integral part of the acquisition program management value chain. During participation in this program, you will be informed in EVM guidelines and requirements to meet Government contract regulations. As a contractor or Government employee, you will gain understanding of its value as an essential tool for program managers and technical leads in supporting proactive decision making.

On completion of the program you will be equipped to:

• Relate the fundamental concepts of EVM to specific objectives in a manner that will facilitate progress and performance management
• Apply appropriate progress and performance methods and techniques based on the nature of objectives being managed
• Analyze variances between planned, actual, and earned values that will in turn enable you to identify root causes and formulate effective recovery or action plans
• Prepare and analyze reports required for contracts with an EVM reporting requirement
